'Former Teammate of Choo Shin-soo' Leonys Martin's Brother Follows in His Footsteps to NPB, Joins Chiba Lotte

Andy Martin (23), the younger brother of Leonys Martin (36), who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for nine years, has joined the Chiba Lotte Marines in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB).

Japanese media, including Nikkan Sports, reported on the 2nd that "Chiba Lotte has signed a developmental contract with BC Ibaraki infielder Andy Martin." This season, Andy Martin played for the Ibaraki Astro Planets in Japan's independent BC League, batting .216 in 11 games. While his stats are not particularly impressive, the fact that he is Leonys Martin's brother stands out.

Leonys Martin debuted in the big leagues in 2011, accumulating a .244 batting average with 58 home runs and 228 RBIs over nine years in 770 games. He played alongside Choo Shin-soo (now with SSG Landers) during the 2014-15 seasons with the Texas Rangers. Leonys Martin moved to NPB in 2019 and played for Chiba Lotte until 2022.

His NPB career stats include a .220 batting average with 75 home runs and 204 RBIs in 340 games. Notably, he hit 25 home runs in 2020 and 27 in 2021. Andy Martin expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, saying, "I thank the Chiba Lotte organization for realizing my dream. I look forward to playing at ZOZO Marine Stadium, where my brother played, in front of the best fans."먹튀검증
